The beauty of stamped concrete is unsurpassed in any setting. This raw beauty is coupled with the longevity and durability that concrete itself offers - making stamped concrete an excellent choice for those wanting to liven up their environment. There really is no limit to what can be done with stamped concrete – virtually anything that can be done with regular concrete. Stamped concrete can be installed as patios, decks, walkways, driveways, and anything else you can dream of! Over 100 patterns of stamped concrete are available and at least that many color choices. If you have existing concrete that you wish to improve, the craftsmen at Minds in Motion Contractors can apply a stamped 1/4" overlay to your existing patio and color and stamp it to match your stamped patio extension! Concrete pavers have been installed as a functional and warm surface for 100's of years. The timeless beauty of pavers serves well for walkways, patios, drives, paths, or borders. Pavers can be set over a sand base or over a concrete pad. A "slab" of pavers creates an extremely durable space with color, shape, and pizzazz. Pavers - small and independent - withstand abuse by flexing, rather than cracking, under pressure. In the event that pavers would crack, they are very easy to repair compared to concrete. Regardless of what type of paver or layout, ALWAYS USE AN ICPI CERTIFIED CONTRACTOR. Of course, Minds in Motion is certified by ICPI for paver installation. This means not only have we been properly trained, we have access to decades of support in design, installation, and troubleshooting. Patterns and colors are independent of each other, so feel free to mix and match. Any of the patterns can be trimmed out with one of several border options.
This new patio/walkway is in Random Stone. The simple slick finished border causes the stamped surface to really stand out. Notice the complementary colored 3" trench drain.
There are options with the style of stamp that is used to imprint your concrete. Many concrete stamps are beautiful cut-stone patterns like shown in the above picture, i.e. ashlar slate, flagstone, and brick. There is another style of concrete stamps that are seamless, as in stone texture with no grout lines. These concrete stamps are called texture skins and are used to imprint your concrete or overlay with textures of slate, granite, and river rocks. Texture skins produce a flatter, more level pattern that is a little more table and chair friendly, yet just as eye-catching as any of the stamped concrete patterns. The stamped concrete is often cut into large squares to simulate cut stone slabs taken directly from a nearby mountain side.
An example of the slab style look resulting from texture with Caesar Stone stamps. The stamps have a characteristic deep vein coarsing through the slabs, just as you would expect from mountainside stone! |
Stenciled concrete is a wonderful alternative to stamped concrete, yet still offers the same beauty and durability. Stenciled concrete is a smoother version of stamped concrete with a little less "depth" in the texture for those wanting a smoother surface that is still textured and has a stone layout. The grout lines are ~1/2" wide and are recessed, but are very distinct and life-like. You can’t even tell it isn’t the real thing! You can leave your grout lines natural concrete gray or have them a complementary color for an astonishing effect! Color mixing can be done to give a dimensional, more natural marbled look. Stenciled concrete can be installed horizontally or vertically, driveways, patios, walks, or walls. It can be textured and multi-colored or smooth and uniformly colored.
